With over 50 varieties availble. From Abbot and Arran Pilot, to Winston and Wilja, First earlies through to Main crop and Salads. If you’re after a specific variety or want to to know our stock levels please give us a ring, or come in and ask.
Even the First Early varieties should not be planted until the beginning of March at the earliest, so if you buy your’s early make sure you store them somewhere dark, cold and dry, and don’t forget to chit them before you plant.
Chitting is the best way to give your potatoes a head start, promoting faster and more sturdy growth. A few weeks before your planting date (so for the real early birds that’s mid February) place your seed potatoes in a shallow tray or empty egg carton in a cool, light and frost free environment and leave them. Small sprouts should begin to appear on the potatoes within a week or so, and when it comes to panting them they should establish quickly. Chitting is not essential for seed potatoes but it is recommended for a high producing crop.
Try and plant your crop once the soil level is over 8°C, and try to stick roughly to the guideline planting times for each separate variety. We have a handy little leaflet in the shop with all the essentials on it, and we’re always happy to give advice and our on recommendations, so whether an old hand or a newbie to seed potatoes, never be afraid to ask for help.
We sell our potatoes by weight at £1.80 per Kg, or in pre-packs at £4.00.
We will also have our onion sets and shallots in at £5.00 a Kg.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”2065″ img_size=”full”][vc_single_image image=”2068″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
