JAZZ EVENT - UPDATE
Thank you to everyone who helped to make our first Jazz afternoon such a success. Rain and high winds had been forecast earlier on in the week and had threatened to put a dampener on the day.
However, The sun prevailed for 95% of the afternoon and it was a testament to the band that so many people re-appeared after a short rain shower.
The Dixie Mix Jazz band said they enjoyed the afternoon and are looking forward to coming back next year.

Be inspired by Woodgate Nurseries Annual
Garden Design and Advice Weekend in aid of EAAA
in May 2011
Woodgate Nursery, Aylsham is proud to once again be hosting its annual Garden Design and Advice Weekend on 14th and 15th May. This follows on from last year’s successful event which saw more than 1500 visitors attend and, thanks to their generosity, raised more than £500 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Peter Purdy, Woodgate Nursery owner said, “We are delighted to be hosting the annual Garden Design and Advice weekend, on 14th and 15th May, which gives everyone - from the novice to the experienced gardener - the opportunity to access expert garden advice for free.”
This year’s event welcomes five Garden Designers, all of whom will be demonstrating their talent by creating their own individual garden designs. The Garden Designers include James Hawke, Gill Gorringe, Easton College Horticultural Students and, new for this year, Nicola Glasel, all of whom will be up against Woodgate Nursery’s own Designer Garden to win the Best Garden Award of 2011, as voted by visitors to the event.
All of the Designers will be on hand throughout the weekend, not only to talk through their designs but also to answer any specific questions that visitors may have relating to their own gardens.
“We are very excited to have such an excellent range of garden designers this year – and I’m confident that the home team can compete with Sandringham Flower Show gold medal winner, Nicola Glasel!” said Peter Purdy
A selection of gardening-related businesses and product suppliers, such as Green Thumb lawn care, Ravencroft Arboricultural Services, Randells Garden and Grounds Equipment and Appletree Timber Buildings will also be present at the event, offering specialist advice on topics ranging from tree surgery to lawn care.
The Woodgate Nursery team will be on hand to answer any plant related questions and give advice on growing your own vegetables. Whilst all of the team possess a broad knowledge of plants, each works in their own specialist area, ranging from Perennials to Vegetables - just ask!
Purdy’s Tea Room, which recently opened in April, will provide visitors with a range of refreshments, including Lavazza coffee, speciality teas and freshly baked cakes and scones. “Converted from an old potting shed and nestled in the heart Woodgate Nursery we offer our visitors a traditional tea room experience, and in the warmer months visitors can relax outside on our south-facing patio.” said Stuart Morton, Purdy’s Tea Room manager.
Although the event is free entry, there will be collections on both days on behalf of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Mini Chelsea raises funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance - May 2010
Woodgate Nursery is pleased to announce that its Garden Design and Advice event raised £566.96 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance & will now be an annual event.
Over 1500 visitors were treated to a weekend of free advice on all manner of gardening issues. There were Chelsea style garden designs, exhibits by specialist lawncare & GYO raised bed companies & a delicious hog roast.
Afterwards the garden designers & exhibitors said they had been busy on both days answering all kinds of questions from varying gardening abilities & thought it had been a very worthwhile event for all. They also expressed an interest in coming back next year.
To add an element of competition, visitors were asked to vote for their favourite garden design. The winners of this public vote were the horticulture students from Easton College, who combined their knowledge & skills to put together an amazingly colourful design which was complemented with a free leaflet detailing the plants used in their design.
Woodgate Nursery would like to thank all the exhibitors/caterers for their hard work over the 2 days, everyone for their kind donations & give a special mention to ORM Norfolk Compost for donating the compost for the designs.
Pictures of the event can be seen on the gallery pages on this site.
